We can all awaken into enlightenment and discover the limitless wisdom, compassion and power of our true nature. The ngöndro practices, the foundation and the heart of Tibetan Buddhism, encompass the entire vision of the Buddhadharma, and provide a practical and skilful means for bringing all three yanas (or vehicles) into our daily lives. In so doing, they offer a rich variety of powerful methods for effecting a deep inner transformation of our entire being—body, speech and mind, in order to arrive swiftly at a direct realization of our true nature and the nature of reality itself. Sogyal Rinpoche has a rare ability to bring the ngöndro to life, transmitting a vibrant, genuine experience of the practice in a way that is direct, accessible, meaningful and relevant to modern men and women. During last summer’s Ngöndro Retreat in Lerab Ling, Rinpoche taught very experientially and guided us step-by-step through all the practices of the ngöndro. This year, Rinpoche wishes to begin going slowly through each practice of the ngöndro, teaching over several years, in order to bring out the full impact and significance of each one. As always, Rinpoche will combine all the most crucial points and key instructions on ngöndro from his teachers and the great commentaries, together with his more than 30 years of experience teaching these practices to western students. New students will receive a complete introduction to the ngöndro and have the chance to make an auspicious connection with the heart of these practices through Rinpoche’s presence. For those already practising the ngöndro, Rinpoche’s fresh, profound and dynamic teachings will bring an ever deeper understanding, as well as invigorate, inspire and encourage each person’s practice. This retreat will also welcome back Dzigar Kongtrul Rinpoche, who will teach on Kamalashila’s Stages of Meditation—one of the most definitive and exhaustive guides to the practice of shamatha and vipashyana. Kamalashila was a great Indian scholar and practitioner who brought the definitive teachings on meditation to Tibet. In addition to the teachings by Sogyal Rinpoche and Dzigar Kongtrul Rinpoche, there will be time for individual and group study and practice, as well as guided practices and presentations by some of Rigpa’s most experienced instructors. In the sacred and inspiring environment of Lerab Ling, this retreat will be a most precious opportunity to make a real change in the depths of your hearts and turn your mind toward the Dharma.
