Coronavirus Prevention: How the Lerab Ling Congregation is responding

Updated on 7 March 2020

In light of the present situation concerning the Coronavirus (COVID-19) epidemic, it is with a heavy heart that we have decided to cancel or suspend until further notice the following activities:
- The Datun Retreat that was to be held in Lerab Ling from 14 March to 12 April 2020, and until further notice,
- Personal Retreats, and
- Regular courses

People who have registered for the Datun have already received an email concerning the cancellation of the retreat - If it is not the case please contact This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Lerab Ling has been closely monitoring the situation surrounding Coronavirus (COVID-19) in Europe and has been implementing the recommendations of the international health organisations, and the French national health recommendations.

Cancelling these events was a difficult decision. However, after a lot of consideration, we concluded that it is our responsibility to care for the wellbeing and good health of event participants as well as the Lerab Ling community, and to avoid playing any part in the spread of the virus.

We are aware of the inconvenience that these changes may create, and are sorry for the trouble this may cause the people who registered for these events. Lerab Ling will contact the participants registered for the activities listed above.

Lerab Ling will continue to closely monitor the situation. We will recommence our programme only when it is safe to do so. Any updates concerning our events will be communicated on the Lerab Ling website, Facebook and directly to the people registered for the events.

Updated on 4 March 2020

We are all aware and concerned about the situation around the world with the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19).

Lerab Ling is monitoring the situation carefully and following the recommendations of the international health organisations (in particular the World Health Organisation and European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control) as well as the French national health recommendations.

Lerab Ling has been in direct phone contact with the French regional public health agency who confirmed that the actions Lerab Ling is currently taking are in accord with their recommendations and adapted to the present situation. Lerab Ling is ready to upgrade its measures as needed as the situation develops (such as if France moves to a level 3 alert.)

At present, Lerab Ling’s programme is continuing and no events have been cancelled. However, those who are unwell or those who in the last 14 days have travelled to countries where COVID-19 is spreading will not be allowed to visit Lerab Ling or join our events.

Before each of our upcoming events, Lerab Ling is contacting those who have registered requesting anyone who feels unwell, even with mild symptoms such as headache and slight runny nose, or who has travelled within the last 14 days to China, Hong Kong, Macao, Singapore, South Korea, Italy (specifically Lombardy, Venice and Emilia-Romagna), Iran or to any other country where the virus is spreading (even if they don't have any symptoms) to stay home and not visit or join events in Lerab Ling. Anyone having to cancel their event because of Coronavirus can request a full refund for any financial contributions they made to participate in an event in Lerab Ling.

In addition, amongst the resident community, staff and visitors to Lerab Ling, basic measures to prevent spreading viruses in general (careful handwashing, respiratory hygiene, greeting without shaking hands or kissing and so on) are being strongly reinforced.

Lerab Ling will continue to closely monitor the situation. Any changes on how to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, as well as any changes concerning our events will be communicated on the Lerab Ling website, Facebook and directly to the people registered for the events.

For those travelling to join events in Lerab Ling, we recommend you refer to the World Health Organisation (WHO) advice on their website, in particular, there you will find advice on how to protect yourself while travelling.

Every day the Lerab Ling spiritual community is praying for all those affected by COVID-19. May the epidemic quickly be alleviated all over the world.
